The JumboScan uses the JumboLux, a multidirectional, self-calibrating synchronized projector lighting system that momentarily projects a narrow beam of homogenous light, synchronized with the CCD array movement, across the scanned object for each channel scanned. This patented approach provides perfectly homogenous light and avoids surface temperature increases that could adversely affect preservation by fading or damaging fine art, watercolors and archival documents.
The JumboScan captures and transfers image files at 280 MB/second to a MacIntosh running PhotoShop CS equipped with a PhotoShop Plug-in to manage a wide range of user controls including calibration (gamma curves), resolution, focus (adjustable to 1/400th of an inch), cropping and more. Prescans take two (2) seconds regardless of reflective/transparent material size. Depending on lens, resolution and object size, bitonal and grayscale scans of reflective A (A4) size documents at 300 DPI take 2 seconds or less and RGB color scans take 8 seconds or less. Bitonal and grayscale images are output directly, eliminating time-wasting interpolation from color.
The JumboScan can be equipped with several optional accessories to increase its flexibility in scanning a wide variety of reflective, transparent and small three-dimensional objects. The Book Handling System features a multi-dimensionally articulated book cradle to enable non-destructive handling of fragile flat, rolled and bound (book) documents during the scanning process. The Transparency Module enables positive and negative transparencies (including x-rays) up to 22 inches by 34 inches to be scanned at high resolutions. The Vacuum Easel Module enables reflective documents up to 40 inches by 60 inches to be held perfectly flat for sharp image capture.
